Oyub Titiev complains about the problems with delivery of letters to SIZO
The defence of Oyub Titiev, the head of the Grozny office of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial", treats keeping him at SIZO (pre-trial prison) and the extension of his arrest for three months more as unjustified. The rights defender himself has treated the last court judgement as expected and complained that he receives not all the letters addressed to him.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at the December 10 court session, the prosecution demanded to extend Oyub Titiev's arrest. His advocates asked to transfer him under house arrest. The court supported the prosecution and extended Oyub's the arrest until March 22, 2019.
Oyub Titiev is charged with marijuana possession, and he has been in custody since January 11. He claims that the drugs had been planted to him by law enforcers.
The defence insists that keeping Oyub in custody is excessive. His advocates tried to achieve a mitigation of his freedom restraint measure, but the female judge swept away all the defence's arguments, said Pyotr Zaikin, one of Titiev's advocates.
Oyub Titiev himself has treated the court judgement as expected, noting that he sees nothing new in it. He has also noted that his problem with the receipt of correspondence has not yet been resolved.
"Some letters don't reach me at all, others – with a long delay. Several times I talked about this problem with the head of the SIZO, but the situation doesn't change. For example, a letter can be delivered to a person, but he is not at the SIZO at the moment – he is in the court; the letter disappears, they never bring it again," Titiev told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
