State Duma MP offers introducing fines for approving peoples' deportation

The State Duma of Russia was asked to introduce fines for public agitation and propaganda in order to prevent the rehabilitation of repressed peoples. An appropriate bill was initiated by Ruslan Balbek, Deputy Chair of the State Duma Committee on Nationalities, the "RT" reported on December 17. It was also noted that the documents were submitted for consideration by the expert council of the "Edinaya Rossiya" (United Russia) Party and became available to the edition office.

"Approval, non-recognition or rehabilitation of repressive acts against peoples subjected to forcible relocation and rehabilitated in accordance with the law, committed publicly, will be punished with a fine of 3000-5000 roubles or compulsory labour for a period of 20 hours for citizens, 5000-10,000 roubles for officials, and from 30,000-50,000 roubles for legal entities," notes the message.

Meanwhile, according to the "RT", the State Duma member has expressed the opinion about the need to introduce appropriate additions to the Russian Code of Administrative Offenses due to the fact that some mass media and users of the Internet actively disseminate videos and other materials accusing the Caucasian peoples of mass cases of betrayal during World War II and in such a way form a negative attitude in society towards the rehabilitation of the above peoples.
