Famous religious leader killed in Ingushetia

In Ingushetia, Ibragim Belkharoev, a well-known religious figure and great-grandson of Sheikh Batal-Khadji Belkhoroev, was shot dead; his driver Abo Aushev was seriously wounded.

The attempt on the religious leader was reported by social network users.

The Ingush Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has confirmed the murder. The driver is in intensive care unit, the officer on duty at the Nazran ROVD (District Interior Division) told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

This attempt on Belkharoev is not the first. In May 2016, a law enforcement source reported that Belkharoev's car was blown up near his house in Nazran. No one was hurt by that incident.

Ibragim Belkharoev is a descendant of Sheikh Batal-Khadji Belkhoroev, who headed one of the trends of Islam in Ingushetia in the 19th-early 20th centuries, but Ibragim himself had no religious education and was not a sheikh.
