Nikol Pashinyan appointed Prime Minister of Armenia

Today, Armenian President Armen Sargsyan has signed a decree to appoint Nikol Pashinyan the Prime Minister of the country.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that following the results of the early parliamentary elections held on December 9, the Nikol Pashinyan's "My Step" bloc, as well as the "Prosperous Armenia" and "Enlightened Armenia" Parties gained seats at the Armenian parliament, with 27 additional mandates together. As a result, 88 candidates from the "My Step" bloc, 26 from the "Prosperous Armenia" Party, and 18 from the "Enlightened Armenia" Party gained seats at the parliament of the 7th convocation.

Armen Sargsyan appointed Nikol Pashinyan to be the Prime Minister in accordance with Part 1 of Article 149 of the Armenian Constitution, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been informed by an official from the press service for the presidential administration.

According to Article 149 of the Constitution of Armenia, after the formation of a new parliament, the President of Armenia appoints a candidate from the parliamentary majority as prime minister. The Cabinet of Minister shall be formed within 15 days after the appointment of the Prime Minister.

Nikol Pashinyan was forwarded as a candidate by the "My Step" faction, the "News Armenia" reports.
