Gasanguseinovs' father answers with a picket to Vasiliev's words

Today, at a protest rally in Makhachkala, Murtazali Gasanguseinov, has stated that he was outraged by the words of the head of Dagestan, Vladimir Vasiliev, and refuses to treat the death of his sons as a "tragic accident." He also reproached Mr Vasiliev for refusing to meet him.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in his interview to the "Novoye Delo" (New Cause) newspaper, published on January 26, Vladimir Vasiliev expressed his opinion that the Gasanguseinov brothers were killed because of a tragic mistake and not as a result of law enforcers' malicious intent, and noted that "there is a group of people who are inflating the situation hoping to get funding from certain sources." Mr Vasilev's words caused a negative reaction in social networks; and rights defenders demanded to question him within the Gasanguseinovs' murder case.

On August 23, 2016, the 17-year-old and 19-year-old sons of Murtazali Gasanguseinov from the village of Goor-Khindakh were killed in the Shamil District. Law enforcers declared that the brothers were militants; however, the brothers' fellow villagers insisted that they had nothing to do with militants.

Today, at 10:00 a.m. Moscow time, Murtazali Gasanguseinov, the father of the assassinated brothers came out to hold a picket to the central square of Makhachkala, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.

"Vasiliev has called the killing of my sons to be a tragic occasion. He also said about some kind of funding that people in my encirclement allegedly are trying to receive; and for this purpose, they are swinging and inflating the situation. There is no limit to my indignation. Instead of hanging labels on me and my supporters, why hadn't he met us and talked to us at least once?" Mr Gasanguseinov has asked, emphasising his outrage that his sons' death was treated as "occasion." "My kids were occasionally shot dead; they were occasionally made militants; and purely occasionally those guilty haven't been punished for 2.5 years," said indignant Murtazali Gasanguseinov.
