Four Ingush students imprisoned in Egypt

The fate of one of the five Ingush students detained in Cairo in the summer of 2018 remains unknown, said Yushaa Gazgireev, a State Duma MP. Tatiana Moskalkova, the Russian Ombudsperson, has decided to join the efforts aimed to clarify the reasons for the detention of young people.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since August 2018, relatives cannot contact the five students, who were detained while studying in Egypt.

During his meeting with the head of Ingushetia, Yunus-Bek Evkurov, the MP Gazgireev said that four out of five Ingush students, detained in Cairo, were in prison.

He has added that the fate of the fifth student is still unknown, the "Interfax-South" reports.

On January 31, the Russian Ombudsperson, Tatiana Moskalkova, reported that she was preparing an official request regarding the detainees. According to her story, it will be sent to the leadership of Egypt and the Human Rights Commission.

Djambulat Ozdoev, the ombudsperson for Ingushetia, does not rule out that such a lengthy arrest of Russian citizens has to do with accusations of extremism.
