OSCE recommends Armenian authorities to enhance oversight of campaign finance

In its report on the past parliamentary elections in Armenia, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE/ODIHR) recommended to improve oversight of campaign finance. Observers also advised further enhancing special measures to promote women candidates, so as to strengthen the participation of women in public and political life.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in Armenia, the parliamentary elections took place on December 9, 2018. Observers noted there were violations during the elections, but they were not widespread.

"Although the parliamentary elections in Armenia were held with respect for fundamental freedoms, further efforts are needed to preserve the integrity of the electoral process," recommends the OSCE/ODIHR in its report as quoted by the "Newsarmenia.am".

In particular, the OSCE/ODIHR recommends the provision of enhanced training to members of polling station commissions on counting votes and documenting the voting results.

The OSCE/ODIHR's report also advises that the authorities take a more proactive role in ensuring an accessible environment for the electoral participation of persons with disabilities.

Experts from the OSCE/ODIHR recommend that authorities further support the editorial independence of public media and foster citizens' access to impartial, critical, and analytical political information.
