Law enforcers confound their testimonies against Mikhail Benyash

Two of the law enforcers involved in the Mikhail Benyash's case as witnesses failed to confirm in court their testimonies about a fight between advocate Mikhail Benyash and policemen, reported advocate Alexander Popkov.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that advocate Mikhail Benyash has been charged with using violence against a policeman.

Mikhail Benyash was detained on September 9 in Krasnodar along with participants of a rally against the pension reform. According to Mr Benyash, he was beaten up after detention. He served 14 days of arrest appointed to him for disobeying the police.

Two of the law enforcers, involved in the Mikhail Benyash's case as witnesses for the prosecution, actually retracted their earlier testimonies at a hearing in the Leninsky District Court on March 12, reported Alexander Popkov, an advocate of Mikhail Benyash. "During the investigation, they testified that Mikhail Benyash behaved inadequately. One of the witnesses claimed that Mikhail Benyash beat a policeman with elbows and fists. And now [the witness] said that he didn't approached a car and didn't see what was happening there," Alexander Popkov told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

The fact that the witnesses retracted their earlier testimonies clearly indicates the unlawfulness of the law enforcers' actions with respect to Mikhail Benyash, the advocate believes.
