Activists detained at picket in support of Oyub Titiev and accused of offenses

Law enforcers accused two activists of disobedience to policemen and another one  of occupying a land plot without permission. The other five participants of the rally in support of the head of the Human Rights Centre (HRC) "Memorial" office in Grozny were released without charges.

On March 18, participants of the rally in support of Oyub Titiev, including four supporters of the movement "Solidarity", three activists of the "Unlimited Protest", and one female activist, were detained in Saint Petersburg, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Yevgeny Musin, a participant of the rally. According to him, the picketers came out to the street with the poster reading: "Freedom to Oyub Titiev".

On March 18, the court found Oyub Titiev guilty of drug possession and sentenced him to four years of imprisonment. The European Union declared that the Oyub Titiev's sentence was directly connected to his human rights activities and urged to release the human rights defender.

Asan Mumdji, a member of the movement "Solidarity", came to the rally, since he considered the trial against Oyub Titiev unfair. Besides, the activist carried out a box for letters, where passers-by threw napkins with their answers to the question: "Is Crimea ours?". "When I put the box on the ground, the police decided that I was occupying the land plot this way," said the activist.

"Oyub Titiev defended the rights of ordinary people who were oppressed by the authorities ... He is a person with impeccable integrity and reputation. That's why we came out to support him," said Elena Grigorieva, a member of the movement "Solidarity".
