Soldier arrested after killing colleague in NKR

Law enforcers have arrested a soldier of the army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR), who opened fire on his fellow servicemen, killing one and wounding another of them.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the evening on March 26, a soldier received a fatal wound in one of the military units of the NKR, its Ministry of Defence (MoD) has reported.

According to investigators, Junior Sergeants Ara Arakelyan and Andranik Koshkanyan received gunshot wounds in one of the NKR's military units. "Arakelyan died from his wounds; the second soldier was wounded in his wrist," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told today at the press service of the Investigating Committee (IC) of Armenia.

A suspect was arrested – a colleague of the wounded soldiers, the IC has noted. Investigators are clarifying all the details of the incident, the NKR's MoD has informed today.

Rights defenders have expressed concern over the growth of non-combat losses among the military personnel of Armenia and the NKR in 2018. They attributed this trend to impunity of commanders and poor training of technical and medical services.
