Criminal case opened against Yana Antonova

A criminal case was instituted against Yana Antonova, the coordinator of the Open Russia* in the Krasnodar Territory, for involvement in an undesirable organization, and she was sent home under the obligation to visit investigators at their first request, reported advocate Alexander Valyavsky.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 9, law enforcers conduced searches an apartment of Yana Antonova, the coordinator of the Open Russia* in the Krasnodar Territory, and at the office of the "Ecological Watch for Northern Caucasus" (EcoWatch). According to a source from the law enforcement bodies, searches were related to a criminal case about the activities of an undesirable organization.

Earlier, the court had fined Yana Antonova for involvement in the Open Russia* which was recognized as an undesirable organization.

The Investigating Department for the Krasnodar Territory of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) instituted a criminal case against Yana Antonova, the coordinator of the Open Russia* in the Krasnodar Territory, under Article 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (carrying out activities in the territory of the Russian Federation of a foreign or international NGO in respect of which a decision was made to recognize its activities in the territory of the Russian Federation as undesirable). At present, Yana Antonova is a suspect, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has been told by advocate Alexander Valyavsky.

According to the advocate, no pre-trial restriction measure was pronounced against Yana Antonova, and she was sent home under the obligation to visit investigators at their first request.

*The General Prosecutor's Office of Russia recognized activities of two organizations registered in the UK and containing the words "Open Russia" in their names as undesirable in the Russian Federation.
