Egyptian authorities accuse Ingush students of extremism

The first court session on the case of Ingush students was held behind closed doors; so far, investigators have not presented any proofs of their guilt. Russian diplomats and the father of one of the detainees were not allowed to the courtroom, Yusup Abakarov, the head of the consular division of the Russian Embassy to Egypt in Cairo, has explained.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2018 five young people from Ingushetia were detained in Egypt. Only on February 2, the information was confirmed that four of them are in prison.

All five left for Egypt without informing their parents about their intentions and studied in Cairo at mosques, reported the leader of Ingushetia. Four detainees were suspected of extremism, and another resident of Ingushetia of recruitment of fighters for militants, Yunus-Bek Evkurov reported.

The official charge was presented to the detained natives of Ingushetia on April 9, 2019, on that day, the first court session was held, Yusup Abakarov said.

According to his story, four students from Ingushetia and one woman of Kyrgyz origin, also a citizen of Russia and a mother of five children, are the figurants in the case. There is still no information about the fate of the fifth detainee, Khizir Dugiev, a native of Ingushetia – Egyptian security agents do not confirm his arrest, while Russian diplomats could not locate him.

Employees of the Russian Embassy and the father of one of the detainees were not allowed into the courtroom, because the session was announced closed.

According to the advocate, "investigators failed to present any proofs of detainees' extremist activities," the RIA "Novosti" reports.
