Egypt tightens custody conditions for Ingush detainees
The Ingush students detained in Egypt have complained to their relatives about the inhuman custody conditions in the Cairo prison. The young people are chained to beds and left without water, their relatives have stated.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in August 2018, five young people from Ingushetia were detained in Egypt. Only on February 2, 2019, information was confirmed that four of them are in prison. On April 7, it became known that the Ingush students went on a hunger strike, demanding to release them. The fate of the fifth detainee, Khizir Dugiev, remains unknown. On April 9, the Egyptian authorities brought formal charges of extremism against the four Ingush students.
Their relatives received a note from them stating abuses by the prison administration. The detainees write to relatives that they are handcuffed to their beds and deprived of water. According to the students, Egyptian jailers have tightened their custody conditions as retaliation for the hunger strike announced by them on April 2.
"They don't even give us water [...] No attention is paid to us at all [...] Please raise this issue in Russia as soon as possible," says the appeal.
