Witness of resonant schoolboys' murder in Tbilisi detained

A suspect in the case of the murder of schoolboys has been detained while trying to leave Tbilisi, the Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has informed today.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on June 3, 2019, the Court of Appeal increased the prison term for both convicts, accused of killing schoolboys in Tbilisi up to 11 years and 3 months, the advocates have reported.

On December 1, 2017, two Tbilisi teenagers died from stab wounds they got in a fight. Mass protests were provoked by suspicions that investigators could have covered the persons guilty of the murder.

This morning, policemen detained a suspect-figurant in the above murder case while attempting to leave Tbilisi, said Vladimir Bortsvadze, Deputy Interior Minister, adding that up to ten persons are the suspects in this case under different articles.

Zaza Saralidze, the father of one of the killed schoolboys, has treated the detention of Kalandiya as long overdue and fair.

"In fact, we can state that the justice has triumphed. However, a trial is ahead. Let's see how the Prosecutor's Office will prove Mikhail Kalandiya's guilt," Zaza Saralidze has stated today.
