Native of Chechnya convicted for financing terrorism after sending money to his brother

On June 19, the North-Caucasian District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced Ali Gekhaev, a native of Chechnya to six years in colony for sending 1262 euros to his brother, who later went to Syria to fight on the side of militants.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 13, 2019, Ali Gekhaev, a native of Chechnya, extradited to Russia by the Belgian authorities, refused to plead guilty of financing terrorism at a session of meeting of the above North-Caucasian District Military Court.

Gekhaev is accused of financing terrorism (Part 1, Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). According to the prosecution, while in Belgium, he had transferred, through the Western Union system, 1262 euros to his cousin Aslambek Musaev, who later went to Syria to fight for militants. Witnesses for the prosecution claim that Gekhaev did not know about his cousin's plans to leave for Syria.

The court found Gekhaev guilty and sentenced him to six years in a general-security colony, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports.
