Opposition leader Ali Kerimli detained in Baku

Ali Kerimli, the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was taken to a police station after participating in the "Marathon of Solidarity", reports Gezyal Bairamly, the deputy chair of the PFPA.

"Today, the office of the 'Musavat' Party is holding the 'Marathon of Solidarity' in order to raise funds to pay administrative fines for the participants of the protest actions of recent months," the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent was told by Gezyal Bairamly.

According to her, at about 12:00 a.m., Ali Kerimli arrived at the place of the action and delivered his speech to the gathered activists. At about 1:00 p.m. local time, when Ali Kerimli had already left the building to return home, policemen forced him into their car and took him to the Binagadi district police department, reported Gezyal Bairamly.

Officials from the Binagadi district police department refused to comment on the situation. Till present, the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent has not yet succeeded in contacting the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) for Azerbaijan.
