Ramzan Kadyrov requests to remove attacked police checkpoint in Chechnya

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov claims that the police checkpoint, where policemen were attacked, is of "no strategic" significance. The police checkpoint is located in the forest at a great distance from villages and towns, local residents report.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 1, a policeman was killed in an attack on a police checkpoint in the Achkhoi-Martan District. On July 2, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported that the attacker was identified as Zelimkhan Musaev, a native of the village of Achkhoi-Martan. He was a drug addict, married to a woman whose relatives were militants who had left for Syria, the police reported.

On July 2, at a meeting, officials discussed the question about the need to maintain the police checkpoint in the Achkhoi-Martan District. The "Grozny" TV Channel reported that the above police checkpoint "was of urgent need during the antiterrorist campaign" in Chechnya.

Ramzan Kadyrov voiced a request to remove police checkpoints on the roads between the regions of the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) yet on December 6, 2018. Mikhail Skokov, Minister of Internal Affairs for North Ossetia, did not agree with the request of the Chechen leader.
