Chechen law enforcers: man killed in attack on policemen was a drug addict

Zelimkhan Musaev, who was killed while attacking a police checkpoint in Chechnya, was a drug addict, married to a woman whose relatives were militants who had left for Syria, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported.

On July 1, a policeman was killed in an attack on a police checkpoint in the Achkhoi-Martan District. The Chechen MIA reported that the attacker was Zelimkhan Musaev, a native of the village of Achkhoi-Martan.

The "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court, claimed responsibility for the attack on the police checkpoint. Former law enforcers interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" suggested that the IS claimed responsibility for the attack to promote its activities, and the incident could hardly be considered as a terror act.

At a meeting with the participation of Ramzan Kadyrov, Ruslan Alkhanov, the head of the Chechen MIA, reported that earlier, Zelimkhan Musaev had come to the attention of the police "through pharmaceutical addiction checks," the "Grozny" TV Channel reports.

The Chechen Interior Minister also noted that Zelimkhan Musaev was married to a woman whose relatives were militants killed in Syria.

Let us remind you that in October 2017, residents of Chechnya reported mass detentions of young people suspected of using narcotic and psychotropic substances.
