North Ossetia opens Dargavs Necropolis for tourists

The authorities have enhanced the security at Dargavs Necropolis, which was temporarily closed for visits after tourists started to post selfies with buried skulls, reports today Valery Kubalov, the director of the National Museum of North Ossetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on July 22, the Minister of Culture of North Ossetia signed an order to temporary close Dargavs Necropolis for visitors after the posts stating that tourists were touching exhibits and pulling them out of the crypts. On July 27, Valery Kubalov, the director of the National Museum of North Ossetia, noted there was a need to organize the protection of the necropolis, install more video surveillance cameras, and fence the territory.

Dargavs Necropolis is again open to visitors, the "Caucasus Post" reports today.

According to Valery Kubalov, the necropolis was opened to visits after the authorities "had taken emergency measures," the "Vesti.ru" reports.

At present, the round-the-clock security at the necropolis has been enhanced, and it is planned to install video surveillance cameras in the coming days. The Ministry of Culture of North Ossetia is developing a concept for the further functioning of the architectural and ethnographic complex, the "Vesti.ru" reports on its website.
