Mukhtarly complains about unjustified restrictions in colony

The Azerbaijani journalist, Afghan Mukhtarly, said that in the colony he is denied meetings with friends and phone calls to his advocate. The latter has pointed to the illegality of these restrictions.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in May 2017, Mukhtarly, who had immigrated to Georgia in 2014, was forcibly taken to Baku, where in January 2018, a court sentenced him to six years in prison on charges of illegal border crossing, smuggling and resistance to an authorities' representative.

According to Leyla Mustafaeva, Afghan's wife, the journalist failed to receive a money transfer of 100 manats (USD 60) sent to him by a friend.

Besides, her husband is not given the book "New Authoritarianism and Azerbaijan", written by Elman Fattakh, an activist of the "Musavat" Party, although the book is not officially banned.

In relation to Mukhtarly, the ban on his friends' visits is also still in force.

Ms Mustafaeva has also pointed to the journalist's health problems. According to her story, her husband complains of heartaches.
