Decision to return case of Dagestanis killed in Chechnya to Grozny approved

The Russia's Supreme Court (SC) has rejected the appeal against the refusal to transfer the consideration of the case of the eight Dagestanis murdered in Chechnya from this republic to another region, Andrei Sabinin, an advocate, has informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on August 12, the Russia's SC refused to transfer the consideration of the above case from Chechnya to another region. According to law enforcers, the casualties had been plotting a terror act and were killed in a shootout. The mothers of the posthumously accused persons assert that a Chechen court will not be able to objectively investigate the case, and witnesses will be afraid to come to the trial. Rights defenders have complained to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) about the inefficient investigation of the case.

Earlier, casualties' relatives claimed that they had been kidnapped and demanded to unite the cases of kidnapping in Dagestan and shootout in Chechnya into one case. According to Andrei Sabinin, a lawyer from the "Agora" International Human Rights Group, who is running this case, casualties' relatives insisted on hearing the case in Dagestan. Mr Sabinin has emphasized that he will submit no more complaints.
