Advocate treats Elizaveta Alieva's complaint to the ECtHR as Russia's precedent

The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has combined the complaint of Elizaveta Alieva, a resident of Ingushetia about her abduction with another complaint lodged by her about the murder of her sister Marem Alieva.

The combined complaint has been communicated under Articles 2 (right to life), 3 (prohibition of torture), 5 (right to liberty and personal immunity), 8 (right to respect for private and family life) and 14 (prohibition of discrimination).

According to Olga Gnezdilova, a lawyer of the "Legal Initiative" Project, this case is the first about the murder of a victim of domestic violence, communicated not only from Ingushetia, but also from Russia as a whole. "The appeal was made possible thanks to sister Marem, who, despite threats of murder, for several years insisted on the investigation and eventually turned to the ECtHR," the Project quotes Ms Gnezdilova as saying.

Elizaveta Alieva herself told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that she had received threats constantly since the Marem Alieva disappeared. They demanded from her to recall the applications. Besides, she said that her elder disabled sister, who lives in Ingushetia, also received threats.
