Court cancels extension of Gadjiev's arrest

Today, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan has ruled to revise the decision on the extension of the arrest of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Abdulmumin Gadjiev was arrested on June 18, 2019. On September 10, the Sovietsky District Court of Makhachkala extended his arrest for another two months.

Abdulmumin Gadjiev was arrested within the case of financing terrorism. He believes his case was falsified. According to Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik", Gadjiev suffered because of his articles on Islamic topics.

Today, Judge Abdulnasir Gimbatov, having considered the request of Gadjiev's advocates on placing the journalist under house arrest, has partially satisfied it. According to the decision of the SC, the Sovietsky District Court should reconsider, by another composition of judges, the investigator's motion on the extension of Gadjiev's custody. Gadjiev will wait for the reconsideration under arrest, the term of which expires on October 17.
