Journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev detained in Dagestan

Law enforcers have searched the home of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, an employee of the "Chernovik" daily, his friends have informed. The detained journalist is suspected of financing extremism, a source from law enforcement bodies of Dagestan has added.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported about detentions of journalists in Dagestan. Thus, Idris Yusupov, a journalist of the "Novoye Delo" newspaper, was repeatedly detained for video filming law enforcers' raids near the "Tangim" Mosque in Makhachkala.

According to Yusupov, he is on friendly terms with Gadjiev; today, he came to his home and learned about the search. He has noted that computers, tablets and laptops were seized from Gadjiev's home.

"Gadjiev is suspected of transferring money to the accounts of Abu Umar Sasitlinsky," the republic's law enforcement source has explained.

Investigators regard the Dagestani preacher, Abu Umar Sasitlinsky (Israil Akhmednabiev), to be an organizer of financing terrorists through "charitable foundations" under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims. He himself has denied all the charges. Fundraising for terrorists under the pretext of charity was widespread in the past; however, a tight control over banking operations and charitable funds has undermined this practice, experts believe.
