Gadjiev states law enforcers' pressure on court
Judges are not allowed to make decisions that run counter law enforcers' demands, the journalist, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, has stated at a session of the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan. Even if Gadjiev is released from custody, he will be arrested on another charge, his defence is sure.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 7, the Dagestani SC decided to reconsider the ruling of one of district courts of Makhachkala to extend the custody of Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a journalist of the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly.
Abdulmumin Gadjiev was arrested within the case of financing terrorism. He believes his case was falsified. According to Magdi Kamalov, the founder of the "Chernovik", Gadjiev suffered because of his articles on Islamic topics.
When the case was considered, the advocate, Akhmed Akhmedov, thought that "the justice was held hostage by the repressive machine of the law enforcement system." "Even if now the court rules to release Gadjiev, then, at the door of the SIZO (pre-trial prison) he will be met by agents, who will detain him under another case. The decisions to release and place in custody are made not by the court. Therefore, I believe that some kind of barrier should be put to this law enforcers' lawlessness," the advocate stated at today's meeting of the Dagestani SC.
Abdulmumin Gadjiev has agreed with Akhmedov's opinion. "The judge, even if he wants to make the right decision, will not be able to do this," Gadjiev has added.
