Head of Ingushetia demands from his officials to solve Chechen migrants’ housing problems
Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov, the head of Ingushetia, has criticized his subordinates for unresolved problems of forced migrants and demanded from them to give, before the end of February, a reasoned answer on whether they can claim compensations for their lost housing.
The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on December 25, 2019, forced migrants from Chechnya stated that the refusals to extend their migrant status resulted in a disastrous situation because of their housing problems.
Back in February 2018, about 200 forced migrants from Chechnya complained that they had lost their refugee status and the right to receive housing, after they had received meagre compensations.
According to Madina Dzortova, an activist of a group of forced migrants from Grozny, the head of Ingushetia ordered his officials to solve the housing problems before the spring of 2020.
In his turn, Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov has noted that 519 families need improvement in their housing conditions. "25 years have passed, but their housing problems have not yet been solved," he wrote in his Instagram.
Some of forced migrants are forced to live in rented housing and with their relatives for years, Ms Dzortova has noted. “Living in rented apartments and old huts for decades, often with children and old disabled people is hard both physically and mentally,” the activist has complained, emphasizing that the authorities for a long time had ignored migrants’ problems.
Khedi Kotieva said that her husband died of cancer, failing to achieve the extension of his status of a forced migrant.
