Abkhazia: activists achieve adoption of anticorruption law

Abkhazian MPs have adopted a law on declaring officials' incomes, expenses and property in the final reading. The activists demanding the adoption of the law have stopped their action in central Sukhumi.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the action demanding from MPs to adopt the anticorruption law in its final reading before the presidential election was launched on February 4 in front of the Abkhazian Parliament. Activists announced a round-the-clock action.

On February 6, the Abkhazian MPs adopted the Law "On Declaring the Incomes, Expenses, Property and Property-Type Liabilities by Public Servants and MPs" in the third and fourth, final, readings, Valery Kvarchiya, the Speaker, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He has noted that parliament had been considering the bill for more than a year. The MPs have decided that the anticorruption law will enter into force on December 30, 2020, after the adoption of the Law "On State Service".

After the end of the parliamentary session, the activists who had demanded the adoption of the anticorruption law went home, Djansukh Adleiba, an activist, who had organized a round-the-clock camp near the parliament, has stated.
