In Dagestan, picketers demand to release journalist Abdulmumin Gadjiev
No visits are allowed to Abdulmumin Gadjiev, a relative of the journalist reports.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that every week, in Makhachkala, activists hold pickets with the demand to stop the criminal prosecution of Abdulmumin Gadjiev. The recent such action took place in Makhachkala on March 2, and it gathered 12 people.
Since June 2019, Abdulmumin Gadjiev, the editor of the religion department of the Dagestani website "Chernovik" (Draft), is being kept in custody in a case on financing of terrorism. The journalist pleads not guilty.
Today, colleagues and friends of Abdulmumin Gadjiev have again come to pickets in support of the journalist. All the protesters felt great support from drivers passing by, said Magomed Magomedov, the deputy editor-in-chief of the "Chernovik". "Some drivers raise their hands, and others sound horns. A lot of people supported us," Magomed Magomedov said.
A relative of Abdulmumin Gadjiev says that journalist's relatives are still not allowed to visit him. On March 2, Zagidat Alieva, a journalist's mother, also complained about the absence of possibility to visit her son.
