Georgia imposes general quarantine and nighttime curfew

Two new cases of the coronavirus infection have been confirmed in Georgia, and the total number of coronavirus-infected people reached 100.

Starting from March 31, Georgia imposes a general quarantine and a curfew. The movement of all public transport vehicles, except taxis, is prohibited in the country. The Georgian authorities have decided to tighten restrictions, since residents of the country fail to comply with the rules of the quarantine regime.

Starting from 8:00 a.m. on March 31, Georgia imposes an "actual" general quarantine and a nighttime curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. local time. The movement of pedestrians and cars is forbidden during the curfew time, announces Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakhariya at an emergency briefing.

During the general quarantine, the operation of public transport, including the metro, is prohibited, except for taxis. Only the movement of cars is allowed. Apart from a driver, two passengers may travel in back seats of a car, reports the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent who watched the broadcast of the Georgian government's emergency briefing.

The Georgian authorities have banned assemblies of more than three persons. The exception is made for grocery stores and pharmacies, where more than three persons can stay at once, providing they comply with social distancing of two meters. People over 70 years old are allowed to leave their homes only to go to the nearest shop, pharmacy, or medical clinic. The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Ministry for Public Health, and local authorities are to provide assistance to single people.
