Social media users outraged by Chechen authorities' intercession for blogger Tamaev

Akhmed Dudaev, the Minister for Press of Chechnya, has stood up for blogger Askhab Tamaev after Ekaterina Mizulina, the head of the "Safe Internet League", accused him of fraud. The intercession of republic's authorities for the person who resorts to threats and frauds looks dubious, social network users have pointed out.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Chechen Minister for Sports had scolded bloggers Askhab Tamaev and Arbi Emiev for "their behaviour unworthy of Chechens." Mizulina earlier criticized Tamaev for advertising online casinos. From the viewpoint of Chechen traditions and Islam, involvement in gambling and advertising thereof are prohibited, Ruslan Kutaev, an expert on the Caucasus, and Rinat Mukhametov, an Islamic scholar, have stated.

In January 2023, on the Instagram*, Askhab Tamaev, a Chechen athlete, announced a lottery for a passenger car and 15 iPhones; potential winners thereof needed to subscribe to the accounts of Ramzan Kadyrov and his entourage.

Mizulina posted a video of Tamaev, who announced the name and address of the blogger who had posted an investigation about Tamaev, and forced him to apologize.

Earlier, the author of the YouTube channel “Ministry of Truth” recorded video clips about Tamaev and his streams of the game, in which one can supposedly win a large amount of money, but it looks more like a casino.

“Not only does the scammer disrespect Islam, which prohibits casinos, and involves children in gambling, but he is once again setting a bad example for young people,” Ekaterina Mizulina wrote in her Telegram channel.

She also placed a post from a user who said that his minor acquaintance transferred all the money to Tamaev’s project, and when he demanded it back, he faced threats.

Akhmed Dudaev, who is also the Chechen Minister for National Policy, has stood up for Tamaev and called him a “dear brother.”

“Ashab is a person with a firm and correct civic position, who regularly provides assistance to the participants in the special military operation (SMO),” Dudaev says in a video posted in his Telegram channel.

Social network users have noted Tamaev’s impunity.
