Kuban woman accused of links with Syrian militants

Victoria Simonenko, a 25-year-old resident of Novokubansk, has been put on the wanted list within the case of training in a militant camp in Syria.

According to investigators, in 2016, the young woman arrived in Syria, where she was trained in a militant camp. There, she learned to handle weapons and explosive devices, and until January 2018 took part in the activities of terrorist groupings.

Simonenko has been arrested in absentia, the Department for Krasnodar Territory (also named as Kuban by the name of the main river) of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2019, Denis Khisamov, a retired military serviceman from Krasnodar, was deprived of his captain rank and sentenced to 19 years in a maximum security colony within the case of participation in the "Islamic State" (IS), a terrorist organization banned in Russia by the court.
