Azerbaijani authorities report payment of assistance to veterans
Participants in the Great Patriotic War and home front workers have received lump-sum cash benefits for the Victory Day, the Azerbaijani government has announced. Because of the quarantine regime, we'll have to celebrate the Victory Day at home, local residents have regretted.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that by the Victory Day, Azerbaijani authorities had allotted 900 US dollars to each participant of the Great Patriotic War; widows of the dead war participants, home front workers and survivors of the siege of Leningrad will receive 450 US dollars each. In total, by the Victory Day, the help is provided for 7600 people.
No mass events on the occasion of the Victory Day are held due to the quarantine regime, an employee of the Azerbaijani government has informed.
For Fatma Sattarova, a veteran of World War II, the 75th victory anniversary has coincided with her 100th birthday. When the war began, she went to the front as a volunteer. Being a medic, during the four years of the war she worked in most decisive front sections and reached Berlin.
Zinaida Rasulova, 97, participated in battles in Ukraine, Belarus and Poland. She said that she was satisfied with the state care for veterans.
Gyulnara Akhmedova, a resident of Baku, said that during the war, her grandmother worked as a nurse in a military hospital in Azerbaijan. According to her version, attention to veterans is shown only on holidays.
Gyulchokhra Samedova, a pensioner, has noted that in her family, May 9 was celebrated, while her father, a war veteran, was alive. Now, there is no festive mood "life has become difficult; my pension of 270 manats (USD 160) is not enough; and there is no support from the state."
