MfE sets up tent camp for Azerbaijani citizens in Dagestan
In the city of Derbent and in the Derbent District of Dagestan, about 700 Azerbaijani citizens are waiting for the opening of the Russian-Azerbaijani border. For them, it was decided to set up a tent camp, for 210 places so far.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 3, it became known about 600 Azerbaijani citizens, who has arrived in Derbent and the Derbent District of Dagestan from many Russian regions aiming to cross the border that is closed due to coronavirus.
The deployment of a temporary accommodation centre (TAC) for the Azerbaijani citizens awaiting the opening of the state border began on May 10, the press service of the Dagestan Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) has informed. Equipment for accommodating up to 210 people was delivered from Makhachkala to the border of the Derbent and Magaramkent Districts, the MfE noted on May 10 in its Instagram page.
Fuad Shikhiev, the acting head of the Derbent District, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that currently, more than 700 Azerbaijani citizens are in the territory of Derbent and the Derbent District.
"People are still coming hoping to return home, but they see already here that the border will not be opened so soon. Those who can return to their former residences are leaving there. Those who have no such chance stay in the district," Mr Shikhiev has explained.
