Four law enforcers injured in clashes on Dagestani border

During riots in the tent camp in the village of Kullar, four law enforcers suffered, authorities of the Derbent District have informed.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the Azerbaijani citizens, who are waiting for departure to their homeland on the Dagestani border, staged a protest action, which on June 15 turned into clashes with law enforcers. After the incidents, social network users condemned Azerbaijani authorities.

The Azerbaijani citizens who failed to get home due to the closure of the borders had to stay for the lifting of quarantine in the border regions of Dagestan.

According to Fuad Shikhiev, the acting head of the Derbent District, the conflict has been settled; the violators have been taken to the police station, the RIA "Novosti" has reported.

On June 9, a group of 130 Azerbaijani citizens crossed the border; and on June 15, residents of the tent camp announced a new inflow of their fellow countrymen to the border. On June 16, it was planned to send another group of 240 people home.

Earlier, Mr Shikhiev said that a total of 586 Azerbaijani citizens were waiting for the border opening in the Derbent District. The border has been closed for several months; however, citizens of the neighbouring state continue coming to Dagestan in the hope of returning home.
