Conditions in tent camp near Kullar improved after protests
The Azerbaijani authorities began actively helping their citizens, who are waiting for their departure to homeland in the tent camp set up near the Dagestani village of Kullar. The living conditions, the nutrition and medical care in the camp have improved.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that for the citizens of Azerbaijan, who could not get home due to the border closure, a temporary accommodation centre (TAC) in the form of a tent camp was set up on the border of the Derbent and Magaramkent Districts.
On June 15, Azerbaijani citizens staged a protest rally, which grew into clashes with law enforcers. Ten Azerbaijanis and four law enforcers were injured.
Over the past two days, after the next group of Azerbaijan was sent home, about 70 people arrived in the camp, Fuad Shikhiev, the acting head of the Derbent District, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. Mr Shikhiev has added that the Azerbaijani party had deployed several tents in the camp, which are used as a kitchen-canteen, as well as administrative offices.
"A representative of the Azerbaijan leadership is constantly present in the camp; he interacts with his fellow countrymen. He is compiling a list of the next group of people to be sent home. Besides, a paramedic and two psychologists are on duty all the time at the temporary accommodation centre (TAC, or tent camp)," he said.
Enver Gasanov, a long distance truck driver, who often drives across the border, has confirmed to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the situation in the campsite was really improved.
In Kullar, they have expanded the tent canteens, improved the food quality and sanitary conditions; they are also setting up showers, increase the medical staff; the tenants have their body temperature measured twice a day, Mr Gasanov has added. He has noted that almost all those who arrived in Dagestan in April have already returned to Azerbaijan.
According to his story, now about 300-350 people are staying in the camp.
