Opposition activist Amrakhov detained in Azerbaijan

His party colleagues have associated the detention of Firdovsi Amrakhov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), with his criticism of the authorities.

Firdovsi Amrakhov was detained on June 25 in the city of Ganja, where he lives, Gezyal Bairamly, the PFPA deputy chair, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"The local police have informed the Amrakhov's family that he was taken to Baku. After Amrakhov's arrest, his Facebook account was deleted: either he was forced to do it, or the page was hacked by means of his mobile phone. Obviously, his criticism of the authorities in the social network is the true reason for his detention," Ms Bairamly has stated.

She has added that "repressions against PFPA wouldn't stop even under conditions when the coronavirus infection is rapidly spreading."
