Over 200 Azerbaijanis leave Kullar camp for homeland

On July 7, the Derbent district administration reported that a total of 240 Azerbaijanis, including children, had left the tent camp set up in Kullar on the Dagestani-Azerbaijani border.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a temporary accommodation centre (TAC) was opened on the border of the Derbent and Magaramkent Districts of Dagestan for the citizens of Azerbaijan who failed to get home due to the border closure. On June 15, a protest action took place in the tent camp, which turned into clashes with law enforcers.

Fuad Shikhiev, the acting head of the Derbent District, has noted that more than 500 people are still waiting for departure in the tent camp. "Work on their return is underway; and another group is expected to depart in the near future," the TASS quoted Mr Shikhiev as saying.

He has added that departure lists are compiled by the Azerbaijani party. "No officials of our republic take part in the procedure," the "Youth of Dagestan" reports citing Fuad Shikhiev.
