"Nida" Movement activist detained in Azerbaijan

The detention of Farrukh Mamedzade, an activist of the "Nida" Movement was associated by his colleagues with the July 15 rally in Baku.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that at night on July 15, in Baku, a march took place in support of the Azerbaijani army, which ended in clashes with the police. The Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) reported that the number of party activists detained after the rally had amounted to 48.

Farrukh Mamedzade was detained on August 4 at home in the city of Lankaran in the south of Azerbaijan, Ulvi Gasanli, a member of the board of the "Nida" Movement, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

"Farrukh was taken straight from home, without explaining the reasons. He was brought to the local police station, and until the morning nothing was told to his parents about his fate. Only around the noon (on August 5), his parents were told that Farrukh had been sent to Baku to the 'bandit division' (the Chief Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), – note of the "Caucasian Knot"). Today we tried to find out the reasons for his detention, but in vain," Mr Gasanli said.

He believes that Mamedzade could be detained within the criminal case opened on the July 15 rally in Baku.
