Court doubles imprisonment term for Ingush activist Ramazan Gagiev
Public prosecutors succeeded in seeking a toughening of the verdict against Ramazan Gagiev, who hit a fighter of the National Guard of Russia at a rally in Magas. The court prolonged the term of imprisonment for the activist from four to eight months.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 12, 2019, the court sentenced fitness trainer Ramazan Gagiev, who hit a fighter of the National Guard of Russia at a rally in Magas, to four months of imprisonment. The activist pleaded guilty. The public prosecutors sought to toughen the sentence and argued that Ramazan Gagiev felt "political enmity" towards the leader of Ingushetia.
Today, the Stavropol Territorial Court has reconsidered Ramazan Gagiev's case and added to the verdict an indication of the activist's "political enmity" towards Yunus-Bek Evkurov. The punishment was toughened to eight months of imprisonment in a common-security penal colony.
According to Mukhtar Mishaev, an advocate of Ramzan Gagiev, his client suffers from diabetes mellitus and needs constant medical supervision. Ramazan Gagiev felt bad before the start of the today's court hearing.
