Two US cities recognize Nagorno-Karabakh's independence

The American cities of Fowler and Fort Lee have recognized the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. Similar resolutions were adopted by the Council of the French Department of Aude-de-Seine and the City Council of the French city of Vienne, the Nagorno-Karabakh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has announced.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in October, amid the fighting in the conflict zone, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan called on other countries and international organizations to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Nagorno-Karabakh by recognizing its independence. The Azerbaijani authorities will sever diplomatic relations with the countries that recognize the independence of Karabakh, President Ilham Aliev has threatened.

Abkhazia, South Ossetia and Transnistria have recognized the independence of Nagorno-Karabakh. These are pro-Russian regions, which themselves are not separate states from the point of view of most countries of the world.

According to the Nagorno-Karabakh's MFA, in the USA, the Fowler City Council (California) and Fort Lee (New Jersey) have condemned "Azerbaijan's aggression and recognized the right of the people of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to self-determination and independence." They also called on the US President and Congress "to join their support for the freedom of Artsakh."
