South-Ossetian MPs demand resignation of General Prosecutor

In their address to the leader of the region, MPs of South Ossetia claimed that Uruzmag Djagaev, General Prosecutor of South Ossetia, must resign, since there was no progress in the investigation into a case on the death of Inal Djabiev.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 4, about 20 relatives of Inal Djabiev came out to a protest action on Theatre Square in the centre of Tskhinvali. The protesters criticized the General Prosecutor's Office for the absence of progress in the investigation into the death of Inal Djabiev.

Inal Djabiev was detained within the case of an attempt on the life of Igor Naniev, the Interior Minister, and died on August 28. Photos of his body with traces of severe beatings appeared on the Internet. Djabiev's death was followed by Igor Naniev's resignation, followed by resignation of the Premier, Eric Pukhaev, and the entire government.

About 25 South-Ossetian MPs sent an appeal to President Anatoly Bibilov with the demand for the resignation of Uruzmag Djagaev, General Prosecutor of South Ossetia, since there was no progress in the investigation into a case on the death of Inal Djabiev. There was no reaction from the authorities. After the acting Minister of Internal Affairs came to the square on December 4, the authorities made no other attempts to meet the protesters, David Sanakoev, a member of the South-Ossetian parliament from the "Nykhas" Party, has told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent today.

The widow of Inal Djabiev refused to trust the results of the forensic examination, when the Prosecutor's Office mentioned heart failure against the background of the drug withdrawal as the cause of the Inal Djabiev's death. The prosecutors' version also contradicts the story about cruel torture voiced by Nikolai Tskhovrebov, who had been detained together with Inal Djabiev. In late November, MPs invited South-Ossetian General Prosecutor Uruzmag Djagaev and forensic expert Zarina Dzagoeva to the parliament to discuss the progress of the investigation into the death of Inal Djabiev. However, the MPs remained dissatisfied with the answers of the General Prosecutor and the forensic expert.
