Police report details of shootout in Kurchaloi District

In the Kurchaloi District, policemen were attacked and shelled by two residents of the villages of Tsotsi-Yurt and Oktyabrskoye. The law enforcers were not wounded, the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reports.

The incident took place at night when the policemen tried to stop a car. Unidentified persons decided to escape, opened fire at the policemen, and threw an improvised explosive device (IED) in their direction, which exploded. Two of the attackers were neutralized by return fire.

According to a source, the killed suspects were natives of Chechnya, born in 1993, the "Interfax-Yug" reports.

It should be noted that a similar incident occurred in the Achkhoi-Martan District of Chechnya on December 16. There, law enforcers conducted a counterterrorist operation (CTO), during which suspected militant Kazbek Baidulaev was killed. Investigators reported that the suspect threw a grenade at the law enforcers after they requested him to surrender and was killed by return fire.

Human rights defenders note that people often have to join militants because of the illegal violence committed by law enforcers, repression against relatives, and fear of torture.
