Amid New Year holidays, no raids conducted at "Tangim" Mosque

For three weeks in a row, law enforcers have conducted no raids in the vicinity of the "Tangim" Mosque located in Omarov Street in Makhachkala, believers report. A source from the mosque told about the strict observance of coronavirus prevention measures during prayers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in 2020, law enforcers regularly conducted their Friday raids near the "Tangim" Mosque, except for the period when it was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. For several years of raids at the mosque, policemen brought several thousand parishioners to the police and checked them.

Raids at the mosque in Omarov Street in Makhachkala have not been conducted for three weeks already, Idris Yusupov, a journalist who is regularly visiting the "Tangim", told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent. He suggested that the reason is in the New Year holidays and the bad weather that preceded them. "During the first week there was ice and bad weather; during the next two ones, it was the New Year's weekend," Mr Yusupov has explained.

In the mosque itself, prayers are held in compliance with the norms for the prevention of coronavirus: believers treat their hands with antiseptics; they wear medical masks and observe the social distance. The mosque managers allow only those who are ready to follow these rules to visit it, Idris Yusupov has stressed, noting that the number of the believers coming to the mosque for namazes (prayers) has gone down.
