Pashinyan's supporters block road for oppositional vehicles in Gyumri

Residents of the Shirak Region of Armenia have come out to a protest action against the country's opposition. In his turn, Vazgen Manukyan, the oppositional candidate for prime minister, asserts that protesters' actions had been paid for by the ruling party.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that supporters of the opposition had blocked the road to the airport to prevent Nikol Pashinyan from flying to Moscow for taking part in talks on Karabakh, but the Premier's motorcade managed to pass through. The police detained several oppositional protesters.

On Friday (January 15), residents of the Shirak Region blocked the road aiming not to let oppositional cars to in Gyumri, the website "1in.am" reports. Some protesters have called on the opposition to take up the issue of returning prisoners of war (POWs) instead of holding rallies.

The column of oppositionists' cars could not pass further. Then, activists who had blocked the road declared that they treated "their mission completed" and opened the way.

For two months in a row, the opposition refused to leave streets, and is not going to leave them now, said Ishkhan Sagatelyan, a member of the supreme body of the ARF "Dashnaktsutyun".

"The nationwide demand for Pashinyan's resignation should turn into a nationwide struggle," the politician has stressed.
