Sandro Girgvliani's family to hold a protest action in the capital of Georgia
Today, it is one year from the date of murder of Sandro Girgvliani, a servant of the Bank of Georgia. On the occasion of the mourning date, friends and relatives of deceased Girgvliani, and also the members of various NGOs, including the "Institute for Equality" Non-Governmental Organization, will hold a protest action in Tbilisi.
Irina Enukidze, mother of the casualty, has told the journalist of "Caucasian Knot" that her family hopes to have the criminals punished. "We intend to apply to the European Court and achieve the punishment of those in charge," Irina Enukidze has declared.
We remind you that the Girgvliani family demands the punishment of the murder customers, who were sitting at the next table on that evening, when Sandro Girgvliani was murdered. Among them were servants of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Tako Salakaya, Interior Minister's wife. The relatives assert that those persons were direct customers of Girgvliani's assassination committed by four policemen.
Sandro Girgvliani was killed on January 27, 2006, as a result of a conflict in the "Sharden" cafe-bar. This murder had the same resonance in Georgia as the murder of Giorgiy Gongadze in Ukraine. In connection with Girgvliani's murder, the opposition of Georgia demanded resignation of Vano Merabishvili, Interior Minister. When Georgian authorities failed to satisfy the demand of the opposition, the parliamentary oppositionists boycotted the parliament sessions for 6 months.
