Residents of Adjara demand from authorities to solve social problems

More than 200 residents of Adjara, including those dissatisfied with the restrictions imposed because of the pandemic, forced migrants, and farmers affected by the construction of a hydroelectric power plant on the Chorokh River, held at a protest action on February 15. The protestors request the government to solve their problems.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that residents of Georgia have repeatedly come out to protest actions against the restrictions imposed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

On February 15, several hundred people held protest actions in front of the Adjara government building in Batumi. Some of the protestors requested the government to lift the restrictions imposed earlier because of the coronavirus pandemic. Other protestors demanded to pay compensation to residents of the Kirnati village affected by the construction of a hydroelectric power plant (HPP) on the Chorokh River in the Khelvachauri municipality. The protestors also requested the authorities to establish order in a line of forced migrants waiting for allocation of housing in the City of Dreams settlement.

"According to our observations, more than 200 people gathered in front of the government building. They were demanding a meeting with Tornike Rizhvadze, the chair of the regional government," a staff member of the NGO "Alternative", who monitored the protest action, told the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
