Trial of Giorgadze supporters to start in Georgia within a month
The investigation is over on the case of twelve supporters of Igor Giorgadze. They are accused of an attempt of an armed revolt in Georgia. Now, their case has been sent to the court, and the trial will take place within a month.
The investigation has lasted for 4 months. Allegations of state treason and a plot with the aim to violently overthrow the constitutional order were presented to Maya Topuria, Guram Papukashvili, Varlaam Galdava, Kahaber Kantaria, Georgiy Metreveli, Ramaz Samnidze, Vahtang Talahadze, Temur Zhorzholiani, Georgiy Akhobadze, Yakub Kvinikadze, Revaz Bulia and Vazha Pukhashvili.
The detainees are defended by three lawyers from the USA: Larry Barcell, Melinda Saraf and Robert Fogelnest.
By assurance of Irina Sarishvili, leader of the "Hope" Party, these lawyers represent major US legal agencies.
One more detainee - Maya Nikoleishvili, head of the "Anti-Soros" public movement - was released by the court under the bail of 10,000 laris (5.500 US dollars).
Igor Giorgadze was announced into international search by the Interpol as an accused person of organizing an attempt on the life of Edward Shevardnadze, ex-head of the Georgian state, on August 29, 1995.
