Tourists admit to violating mask regime on vacation in Georgia

Foreign tourists who do not have real estate in Georgia can leave the country without paying a fine for violating the mask regime, says lawyer Zurab Kharati. The tourists interviewed by the Caucasian Knot admitted that when deciding whether to wear a mask, they copied the behaviour of those around them.

The Georgian authorities announced the opening of land borders starting from June 1 to foreign citizens with negative tests for coronavirus. On May 30, Amiran Gamkrelidze, the chief of the National Centre for Disease Control, accused tourists of not complying with the mask regime.

On April 11, the Georgian authorities recognized the beginning of the third wave of coronavirus. It was reported that up to 70 percent of cases were caused by the British strain of coronavirus.

Amiran Gamkrelidze, the chief of the National Centre for Disease Control, notes that cases of violation of the mask regime in the country have become more frequent mainly due to tourists.

According to lawyer Zurab Kharati, the tourists who have not paid a fine for violating the mask regime can leave the country if they do not have real estate or a car in Georgia.

If even a thousand fines are imposed on a tourist who does not have real estate in Georgia, the tourist can leave the country without paying them, Zurab Kharati said.

The foreign tourists interviewed by the Caucasian Knot” admitted that if there were people without masks on the street, then they also preferred not to stand out and did not wear masks.
