Activists state persecutions after congress of Oirat-Kalmyk nationals in Elista
In Kalmykia, five activists reported that protocols were drawn up against them after they took part in the congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk people held in Elista.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that delegates to the Third Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk People, held on May 29, 2021, demanded resignation of the head of Kalmykia and the republic's parliament.
On Friday, May 11, law enforcers drew up an administrative protocol against Oksana Sandjinova, a congress delegate and a member of the Kalmyk Election Committee from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (CPRF). The protocol was under Article 20.2 of the Russian's Code of Administrative Offences: participation in an unsanctioned public event, the activist herself has explained.
Four other activists reported that they could be brought to responsibility for taking part in the congress.
Batyr Boromangnaev, the chairman of the Kalmyk branch of the "Yabloko" Party, said that on June 4, a protocol was also drawn up against him on an administrative offense. "From all districts of the republic" information comes about a letter by Chingis Berikov, the administration head of the Kalmykia's leader, "in which he prohibits rural and districts deputies of Kalmykia to have any contacts with the non-systemic opposition," Mr Boromangnaev has noted.
