Militiamen's rally against corruption in MIA to be held in Dagestan

On April 8, militiamen intend to hold a meeting in the central square of Makhachkala, capital of Dagestan, in protest against corruption in law enforcement bodies.

According to the information obtained by the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" from Mr. Bibulatov, a source in the Dagestan MIA, an application was submitted to the administration of Makhachkala, where it was visaed by city's mayor Said Amirov as follows: "Ensure observance of law and order during the meeting."

The Dagestan MIA source told the correspondent of the "Caucasian Knot" that "the decision of the Makhachkala head Said Amirov to sanction the militiamen's protest action in the central square is most likely explained by Amirov's hostile feelings towards Adilgerei Magomedtagirov, Dagestan Minister of Interior. Amirov wants to render the broadest possible resonance to militiamen's protest action against their own bosses."

On February 15, the staff of the 2nd Regiment of Patrol and Sentry Service of Makhachkala militia refused to obey their commanders from the machinery of the Dagestan MIA.

Mr. Bibulatov has enumerated the following reasons of the strike: "Best workers are eased out of militia. Everything is for sale - officer's posts and military ranks. Getting to militia school costs 7-8,000 US dollars, therefore occasional people, sometimes inclined to criminality, find themselves among our ranks. Eight Wahhabite supporters have been detected among 'OMON-1' workers only."
